I received this product from Influenster free for testing purposes

It’s time for another product review!  Influenster sent me L’Oreal Paris brands new Smooth Intense line of products to test out and let all of you know if it’s the new must have or simply another let down for those of us with some crazy locks.

First thing is first: L’Oreal’s description.  This line is intended for those of us who straighten or other wise damage our hair with flat irons and blow dryers regularly (check) and have unruly or frizzy hair (check).  They say the new Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight line can protect your hair and leave it full, soft and smooth for 48 hours when using the complete system and say that it will never leave your hair looking dull or limp.  Ok, so we’ve all heard that before and if you’re like me and color your hair regularly (this includes every color under the rainbow) then products like this can be nerve-racking.  Color can be so delicate when using new cleaning products on your tresses that trying anything that’s not time-tested after a color can be as stressful as life or death.

Let me give you a little insight as to my hair situation.  I’ve been coloring my hair for about 9 years and regularly curl, flat-iron, blow dry, and all around destroy my hair.  Currently it’s dyed red and I just got my roots done a few days ago so you can imagine my nervousness about trying a new shampoo that’s not specifically for color.  I also work at a dry cleaners so it’s about as hot and humid as a Florida vacation in the middle of the summer and my hair feels the elements every bit as much as the rest of me so frizz is a major issue for me.  I also have a few chunks of hair that (since I cut it shorter) wants to be curly while the rest wants to hang limp.  (Yeah, I’m that dork who, on the rare occasion that I run out early int he morning before dolling myself up, looks like she just lost a fight to a very large fan with her head.)  So…on to the product.

So I tried the complete system yesterday.  First I shampooed, which left my hair feeling extremely soft compared to my normal shampoo.  Simple enough.  Then I used the Pre-Conditioner which, as instructed, I left on for about a minute and then, without rinsing, added the conditioner and let it all sit on for about 4 minutes, or the length of time it took me to suds up and wash my face.  Then I rinsed.  I know wet hair can feel deceiving, but I was shocked at how smooth it felt compared to the regular split end feeling I usually have.  (That feeling kind of like horse hair that’s layered.)  This was much nicer.  I tied my hair up in a towel (like all girls do that men just can’t ever seem to replicate) and let it dry a bit while I dressed.  I pulled off the towel and added a dime size amount of Straight Perfecting Balm.  (A dime size is what the bottle says and obviously we women never use that amount so I gt as close as possible.  I have shoulder length-ish hair and it was plenty so I highly recommend trying to stay as close to the dime size as possible.)  I pulled out my handy-dandy blow dryer from 1900 and went to down.  Usually I let my hair air dry over night and fixing it in the morning but I had an event to go to so I figured I’d try to look presentable.  So I took the (unbearably hot) 30 minutes to blow it out trying to section off chunks instead of just drying it with my head hung upside down like I usually do.  I was shocked at how well it turned out.  My hair felt smooth and had minimal frizz (I don’t use combs or roll brushes when drying just my hands which probably caused the small amount of frizz that I noticed) and it looked great.

The one thing I did notice right off the bat was a slight dull to my new color, but that may have been from the blow dryer and the fact that it was still slightly damp.  However, and this is a HUGE however, I let my hair go the 48 hours without washing it again.  Now, maybe it’s just me or my work conditions, but I can’t ever go a day without washing my hair.  It looks and feels greasy and any product I do use (including dry shampoo) just seems to make it worse and the Straight Perfecting Balm had me assuming that the next morning would be a mess.  My hair was shiny but not greasy looking and soft to the touch the next morning.  It was still straight and didn’t have any extra frizz (which you girls like me who sleep like a person having a seizure know what I’m talking about) and it looked and felt like nothing was even in my hair.  I was shocked!  I’ve never been able to have hair like this before.  The Pre-Conditioner is a once a week regimen, which is nice because I’m not great with long drawn out beauty regimens so being able to have beautiful hair all week without having to follow the full 4 step process is awesome.

So here’s my over-all review of the L’Oreal Paris Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Shampoo, Pre-Conditioner, Conditioner, and Straight Perfecting Balm:  If you have hair GO BUY THIS NOW!!!  I’m usually not easily impressed with most hair care products but L’Oreal Paris has really gotten something right with the Ultimate Straight line including the fact that it smells great too!  If you want your hair to look absolutely amazing (and for 2 days I might add) then seriously go buy this product!

Keurig 2.0 Review

This product was provided to me compilmentary to test and review by Influenster.

This product was provided to me complimentary to test and review by Influenster.

Today I will be reviewing the brand new Keurig 2.0 K350!  I received this product complimentary of Influenster to test and review.

So let’s start from the beginning: I came home to this baby on my doorstep and immediately had to open it up and try it.  Upon opening the box I immediately noticed that it was damn near already put together.  All I had to do was remove everything out of the box, remove the plastic wrap and tape, and put the filter together.  The filter was insanely easy: all I had to do was soak the charcoal filter for 5 minutes and then insert it into the tube and set the date, which will remind me when to change it.  Then I had to put the filter into the water tank.  I inserted the tray under the spout and plugged it in.  Super easy!

Then I took a closer look at the machine itself and noticed the touch screen.  You can imagine my surprise.  I mean, it’s a TOUCH SCREEN!  How cool is that?  I turn it on and a light turns on the illuminates the water tank.  A very calm notification informs me to fill the water tank, which is easily accessible through a pop off lid.  I put three big cups of water in and the screen then asks what I want to do next.  I begin going through the options and I can set the reminder to notify me when the filter needs to be changed.  I can also set the language, and a few other super cool options.

After all this anticipation I had to try it out.  Luckily I was also provided with 6 K Cups, 5 different types of coffee and one black tea as well as 4 super big K Cup coffee flavors for the carafe.  Oh, did I forget to the mention that it comes with a carafe?!  So not only can this Keurig brew me a delicious cup of coffee when I’m home alone, but it can also provide coffee for those family filled moments that require a hot cup of delicious caffeine for everyone in the house!  I had read on other reviews that people had noticed a plasticky taste when they just ran coffee through immediately, so I opened the top and closed it again.  The screen asked me if I would like to brew a cup of hot water, so I touched “Yes”.  It asked me the size and I touched 8 oz.

I didn’t have great luck with my previous Keurig.  It was a First Gen Keurig that was handed down used by my Mother in Law and every cup tasted off.  It just wasn’t good no matter what I cleaned it with or what flavor I used I didn’t like it.  So I was a little apprehensive about this cup of coffee, but I have to admit it smelled so good.

So I take my first sip and it was AMAZING!  I was so impressed with this Keurig 2.0 K350.

So here is my over all review:  Would I pay full price for this?  Absolutely not!  There is no way in hell I would ever pay over $100 for a coffee maker.  I’m cheap and while I love my caffeine, I love my money more.  I’m not positive the exact number on this price tag, but let’s just say I paid $10 for my old coffee maker and I thought that was a little much.  BUT… if you can find this on sale, BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!  However, as I said before, I’m cheap.  If you love coffee, and I mean like connoisseur of coffee, then buy this machine.  The flavor is great, the time-saving is incredible, and the ease of use is life changing!

So, in a nut shell, don’t pay full price, but if you can find this on sale you need to buy it and that’s the bottom line.

Again, this product was provided to me complimentary of Influenster for testing and review purposes.  Thanks Influenster!

The other day I went out in search for a new pair of jeans.  Many of you are probably wondering why this is worth writing about.  Let me first make mention that this is not a personal attack on any one specific individual, but more of an outrage at our societal views in general.  So back to the jeans issue.  I have always had issues finding jeans that fit properly.  I’m 5’9″ and 109-ish lbs.  Let me stop you there.  I’m completely healthy and have no weight issues.  I don’t have esteem issues with my weight, I don’t throw up, and I eat more than any other person I know.  So please don’t start on that whole unhealthily skinny underweight bullshit.  Ok, back to the story.  I have a hard time finding pants that not only fit around the waist and thighs and also in length.  I hate the skinny jean fad and prefer a more flared style of jeans. I fight store employees to find size 24×35 or 0 Long.  I had found rescue in Vanity when they started carrying the Kennedy style pant and recently found out that they not only don’t carry that style anymore, but Vanity doesn’t carry any pant in a size 24 or 0 any longer.  I searched through every store, every Kohl’s, Maurices, Buckle, Target, you name it I went there.  I tried upscale department stores like Dillards and Macy’s and Bloomingdales.  I tried thrift stores like Plato’s Closet and GoodWill.  I scoured websites.  I finally broke down and spent the $120 on a pair of Miss Me jeans.  While they fit, I disliked the uncomfortable decorations on the rear end and the bootcut didn’t seem to fit very well with really any shoe.  As I mentioned before I prefer the flare style, but I caved and bought a second pair when, once again, I couldn’t find literally ANYTHING in my size.

This weekend I decided to break myself down by going shopping for a new pair of jeans.  I was determined to find a pair without the bling in the right fit.  Once again I began searching every store, every website, and every outlet I could possibly find within a 150 mile radius.  I lucked out and purchased a pair of Lucky Brand jeans, size 0 Long, on EBay.  The tag read 0/25 Long and I thought that for sure I could deal with an inch of loosness around the middle.  After all I had plenty of belts.  I waited excitedly for my new jeans to come in the mail.  I got a great deal on them at only $21.50 and began thinking of all the cute outfits I could pair together and how amazing I was for sure my ass would look in them.  As the mail man swooped by I rushed out to retrieve my package and raced into my bathroom to try them on.  To my surpise I swam in them, literally.  I thought for sure there was a mistake so I triple checked the tag, yet it said 25.  I didn’t lose any weight so I could only assume that Lucky, as with every other brand and store I had been to within the last 5 years or so, had extended their sizes in order to better accomodate their quickly enlarging customer base.

See I had done some personal investigating and found out that every jean, really any pant in general, had read one size, yet fit completely different.  I also found out that many stores had completely stopped ordering any flare style jean as well as smaller and longer sizes beacuase the customer base has become so engorged that they just can’t sell the smaller sizes.

So I deduced that, from my investigating, I am being punished by Corporate America for being in good shape.  I, being healthy and trim, have been reduced to either buying and altering every pant I purchase or swimming in any pant I can find.  Corporate America has changed themselves in order to accomodate the rising rate of obesity in America, and yes I say obesity because when an outfit is wider than it is long, specifically in shorts and skirts, it’s obese, or possibly trashy, or both.  So let me just say this out loud.  Lucky Brand, American Eagle, Hollister, Kohl’s, BKE, Aereopostle, YMI, Rock & Republic, and every store that carries any of these brands, you are all part of the problem.  You support the obesity epidemic and lose the customers like myself who just want to fit into a pair of jeans.  I will no longer be shopping at any store that carries any of these brands.  I’ll make my own clothes if I have to, but I REFUSE  to be punished for being a healthy weight.

And on a last note, the next time you want to hate another woman for being skinny or thinner than yourself, think of the struggles she may be having for being an outcast in the larger world.  No one ever asks a woman why she is so fat, however I could never count high enough the number of times I’ve been asked why I’m so skinny, and to top it off, I can’t even buy proper fitting jeans anymore.  It’s interesting how the struggles so quickly balance to the other side with no warning.

I plan to call each company to find out exactly what is happening with each of these companies, and I’ll be sure to update as soon as I can.

Thanks to Influenster, I am now IN LOVE with Sinful Colors Fire Red nail polish, which lasts considerably longer even while doing countless loads of laundry at my job, and Covergirl Bombshell Curvaceous waterproof mascara. It stays beautiful even in hot and humid conditions and removes way easier than other waterproof mascaras. Thanks Influenster!!!
